First, try out easy magic tricks
Easy magic tricks can make a very successful magician in no time.

That is because performing magic tricks is not about secrets and strange moves. It is all about interacting with people. Easy magic tricks give you instant success as a beginner in magic because they are easy to learn and easy to perform.
In other words you should not start by spending years practicing difficult skills. I always tell eager students it is okay to practice on the hard sleight of hand stuff.
Start by GETTING OUT there and perform easy self-working magic tricks. This way they build a foundation of self-confidence in a performance situation.
Another thing:
No one tells you that you have to start by doing a full magic show. No reason to make you nervous. Start up slow. Learn a few tricks and PERFORM them in an everyday situation.
Here is the fastest strategy of how to become a magician: Choose two or three easy self-working magic tricks. Learn them. And perform them in situations where no one would expect magic.
You want to surprise friends, family, and strangers in the Mall, kitchen, bars, restaurant and so on. Just say you have something to show them. Watch! And show them just a magic trick or a stunt.
Perform the same trick over and over, but perform it for new people every time as often as possible. This way you quickly build up your self-confidence as a magician and slowly build up your repertoire of powerful magic tricks.
Most beginners in magic can set a little magic show up in a few weeks. Remember that easy magic tricks make you feel relaxed. And when you perform tricks that require no skills, you feel comfortable and relaxed.
You have the power to focus on what is important, that is, to do magic from the audience’s point of view. To do this you don’t need any fancy or expensive equipment.

excellent post, I’ve always wanted to do magic, and I did play around with it, but I think this is what I always needed. Trying to do too much to soon is definitely a problem.
