Tips for learning magic tricks faster

Some magic tricks are so complicated that it is hard to know what the effect is and what is leading to the effect.

Not to mention that often is the explanation difficult to understand. So here is some tips for learning magic tricks faster..

First you have to get an overview of the trick.

The idea is to get a clear image of the whole trick - before you start learning it. Get the movie inside your head even if it is a written explanation. Some written explanations are very difficult to understand. Read the whole explanation and try to understand what the effect looks like in the eyes of a spectator.

Often the problems come with new moves you have to learn. It is easy to get lost. So try to understand the purpose of the move. Ask you self this: What does it want to achieve?

It is much easier to follow instructions when you know the purpose of it. For example a “double undercut” gets a card from the middle of a deck to The top.

Magic instructions are often how to get from point A to Point B

So learn and know your A’s and B’s.

And then put it all together and start practising the whole pattern from start to finish. To learn a magic trick takes time and practice. That goes for even the easiest magic tricks.

You want to know how it looks from the spectator’s point of view. At the same time you want to be sure the spectators never notice the secret of the trick.

Practice thoroughly until you do the technical pattern flawlessly by heart. It should feel easy to do. Naturally you have to remember everything. So run through the pattern again and again.

Look in the mirror or even better the video camera and see how your magic looks. When you surprise yourself - you got it!
